Lost Boy Found at Sunrise

Laramie (Albany County Sherriff's Dept.) - A little boy who was lost overnight Tuesday was found by daylight.

On August 26th, 2008 the Albany County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a lost 3 year old boy in Northern Albany County.  We were informed that the young boy had been missing for approximately 1 ½ hours prior to our notification and was being sought out by family and friends.

The juvenile, Whip Longwell, originally from Colorado but a new resident to Wyoming along with his mother, Ame Longwell, were at her place of business, the Flying X Ranch.  This ranch is located north of Laramie off of Highway 34 and Halleck Canyon road. This is near the Platte/Albany County Line.

Further information showed that Whip was playing outside the ranch house when he walked away along with his dog. According to the Mother, Whip was gone only a couple of minutes.  Quickly everybody staying at the ranch began searching for Whip until dark.  At approximately 9:30 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office was called and responded beginning a hasty search of the area.

Cold Nose Investigators, a company which specializes in tracking with dogs, was called along with the Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit to begin a search.  As they were searching the area, deputies along with ranch hands also began a foot search of the area. As daylight began to break the midnight search team started one final search before the next team started their duties.  This search turned up Whip who was a little tired but unharmed.  The search ended at approximately 7:00 a.m.

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the following people for their assistance and their willingness to help although they were called off.  The Laramie County Search and Rescue, Niobrara County Sheriff’s Office, Platte County Sheriff’s

Office, Larimer County Search and Rescue, Cold Nose Investigators, Albany County Search and Rescue, Big Laramie Volunteer Fire Department, the Office of Homeland Security and all the individuals residing at the Flying X ranch who were willing and did assist in the search efforts.
